On the 28th of August 2023, a "Workshop on Intellectual Property Rights and IP Management for Startup" was organized by the Entrepreneurship Development Cell and IIC in association with the Department of IT. The session was handled by resource Mr .S. Sheik Sulaiman, Assistant Professor Dept of Mechanical Engineering , Francis Xavier Engineering college. 55 students from Third year IT and 2 faculties of IT department participated in the program. The program was coordinated by Ms. R.Shirly Myrtle, Assistant professor, Department of IT from10am-4pm

The resource person being the product developer and the patent holder he started explaining the key concepts regarding the intellectual Property Rights, different types of intellectual properties such as patents, copyrights, design, geographic indication and trade marks. The workshop commenced with an illuminating the fundamentals of IP, detailing the importance of safeguarding innovative ideas, inventions, and creative expressions. He explained the rights of the holders of patents, copyrights, trademarks, and trade secrets, and their relevance. Through a series of engaging presentations, he explored the intricacies of IP management for startups.

Drawing on practical examples and case studies, participants learned how to identify potentially patentable inventions, strategize patent filings, and navigate the patent application process effectively. Additionally, the workshop addressed copyright considerations for designs, branding through trademarks, and the nuances of trade secret protection. An interactive session allowed attendees to engage directly with him Participants eagerly posed questions, seeking advice on IP-related challenges specific to their startup ventures. The workshop also featured collaborative group discussions, enabling participants to brainstorm and share insights on innovative approaches to IP Management. The event concluded with participants expressing their gratitude for the enriching experience and actionable takeaways. The "Workshop on Intellectual Property Rights and IP Management for Startups" under the guidance of him provided a comprehensive understanding of IP. The workshop undoubtedly played a pivotal role in empowering startups to navigate the complex IP landscape, fostering a culture of innovation, protection, and responsible management within the startup community.
