On 13.7.2023 a session on “Venture Capital Funding Opportunities for Start up” was organized by the Entrepreneurship Development Cell and IIC in association with the Department of AI&DS. The session was handled by the resource person Mr.P.Selvakumar HR/MBA,FXEC. 64 students from second year AI&DS and 1 faculty of AI&DS department participated in the program. The program was coordinated by Mrs P.Sooriabrabha, Assistant professor, Department of AI&DS from 09.30AM – 4.30PM.

The resource person explained the concept of Venture capital (VC) funding and the process of mobilizing the necessary fund for developing the startup. It can be a valuable source of financing for startups and also explained about some common venture capital funding opportunities for startups. The startup founders can approach venture capital firms that specialize in funding early-stage start-ups. Angel investors are individuals who invest their own money into early-stage businesses. They often provide not only funding but also guidance and mentorship. Many large corporations have their own venture capital firms focused on investing in startups aligned with their industry or strategic goals.

The guest speaker explained the government funding options for startups such as Startup India Seed Fund, Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grants or Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) grants. These programs are usually focused on specific industries and technologies. He also said that participating in startup pitch competitions and contests can provide exposure to potential investors and funding opportunities. Remember that securing venture capital funding can be highly competitive. Students got idea to improve their chances, develop a compelling business plan, create a solid pitch deck, and demonstrate traction or potential for growth. They understood networking, building relationships, and seeking introductions through network which can also be valuable in connecting with potential investors. In total all the participants gathered lot of information about venture capital funding and the other related information regarding the funding opportunities. At the end of the session feedback link was shared to the students and the participants gave their feedback.
