Unlocking Career Opportunities: Entrepreneurship and Innovation

On 3.10.2023 an Expert Talk on "Unlocking Career Opportunities: Entrepreneurship and Innovation" was organized by the Entrepreneurship Development Cell and IIC in association with the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering. The session was handled by Dr. R Prem Ananth, IIC Convener, IIC Innovation Ambassador for "Design thinking & Innovations", Assistant professor, Francis Xavier Engineering College from 1.30 PM - 4.00 PM. 173 students from first year ECE, AI&DS and Civil and 2 faculties of ECE department participated. The program was coordinated by Mr Pradheep T Rajan B, Assistant Professor /ECE, Francis Xavier Engineering College.

The speaker started the session by explaining the concept of entrepreneurship and innovation, emphasizing their pivotal roles in driving economic growth, job creation, and technological advancements. The speaker said that innovation is Invention + Commercialization. He said for creating an innovative product, students should choose a social related problems and address the problem with the innovative ideas. He shared the story of Deepinder Goyal, CEO of Zomato, to create inspiration among the students. He also said that the traits and mindset required for becoming a successful entrepreneur such as, creativity, risk-taking, adaptability, and resilience. He said these qualities can be cultivated and nurtured through education and experiential learning.

During the session the speaker highlighted the overview of the diverse career opportunities within the entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystem. He covered the areas such as startups, corporate innovation, social entrepreneurship, and venture capital. He outlined the common obstacles faced by the aspiring entrepreneurs, including financial constraints, market competition, and failure. He also addressed the strategies for mitigating these risks by highlighting the importance of resilience and adaptability. He concluded the session by sharing the potential benefits and rewards of pursuing a career in entrepreneurship and innovation. This includes financial rewards, job satisfaction, and the opportunities to make a meaningful impact on the society through innovation and problem-solving.
