On 20.06.2022 a program was arranged by the Entrepreneurship Development Cell of IT department and IIC on the topic “Start-up Opportunities in Natural Fiber Products through offline mode. The session was handled by R.Tino Merlin, Assistant Professor, Francis Xavier Engineering College. The programme was presided by Dr.J.B.Shajilin Loret and coordinated by Dr.L. Gandhimathi, EDC Coordinator of IT department.

The resource person explained the natural fibers which can be used for making value added products. Normally the fibers are not used properly and in most of the cases it is thrown away as a waste thing. She said that adapting to use real natural fibers will be helpful for the generations to come since they are biodegradable and are easy to wear. She also explained about the bamboo fiber which is the cellulose fiber extracted from the natural growth of bamboo, and is the fifth natural fibers following the cotton, linen, wool, and silk. She also said that bamboo fiber has good air permeability, instantaneous water absorption, strong wear resistance and good dyeing and other characteristics. Moreover, she said that the natural fibres are considered a renewable resource with numerous advantages including high stiffness and strength and biodegradable properties. They usually derive from animals and plants, as well as natural minerals

Bamboo fabric is a natural textile made from the pulp of bamboo grass. The Bamboo used to produce fabrics is easily replenished and requires no pesticides to grow. Clothing made of bamboo rayon typically lasts even longer and holds its shape even better than clothing made of simple bamboo fiber.

The session gave an eye opening for the students towards setting up a startup using the value added products using the natural fibre. The session was an interactive session where the students were very participative and clarify their doubts. 40 students were participated in the session.
