On 28.02.2023 an expert talk on “Opportunities for Startup Ecosystem in Tirunelveli District” was organized by the Entrepreneurship Development Cell and IIC in association with the Department of CSBS. The session was handled by Mrs.M. Thanalakshmi, A/P, M.B.A. Department, Francis Xavier Engineering College. 63 students from second year CSBS and 2 faculties of CSBS department participated in the program. The program was coordinated by Dr. T. Manimozhi, EDC coordinator of CSBS, Professor/Mathematics, Francis Xavier Engineering College from 1.30P.M. - 3.30 PM.

The guest speaker gave brief insight about “Make in India” and Startup India to give an introduction about the initiatives to promote startups in India. Then she explained the startup ecosystem in Tirunelveli. She also said that Tirunelveli was identified and promoted by the Government of Tamil Nadu as one of the Regional startup Hub. Moreover, Tirunelveli was identified as one of the IT destinations in Tamil Nadu. She highlighted the unique opportunities available for the development of startups in this region. She also listed the initiatives taken by the government and other organizations to support the growth of startups in Tirunelveli.

The resource person discussed the agriculture and the scope for innovation in agriculture-related businesses in Tirunelveli such as organic farming, food processing and export-oriented agri-value added businesses. The spokesperson also discussed about the several challenges faced by the startups in Tirunelveli. These challenges include limited access to funding and mentorship, a lack of awareness about the benefits of entrepreneurship, and the absence of a well-developed startup ecosystem. She also highlighted challenges in recruiting and retaining skilled talent. Despite these challenges, there are several opportunities for startups in Tirunelveli. The city has a rich cultural heritage and a growing population, which creates a large market for products and services. Furthermore, the city has several universities and educational institutions, which provide a skilled talent pool for startups. The Tamil Nadu government has launched several programs, such as the Tamil Nadu Startup and Innovation Policy, to promote entrepreneurship in the state. The guest also gave an idea about several incubators and accelerators, such as Nellai Ventures and VIT TBI, which provide mentorship, funding, and other support services to startups. The session came to an end with the feedback session of students and staffs.
