On 24th February, 2023 Entrepreneurship Development Cell & Institution’s Innovation Council in association with the Department of Mechanical Engineering organized an expert talk on the topic “Innovative Thinking & Product Development” was organized from 01:30 pm to 04.30 pm. Dr.R.K.A.Bhalaji, AP/Mech was the resource person. 40 students from the Mechanical Engineering department and 1 staff member participated in the program.

The resource person explained the importance of out of box thinking which ultimately results in innovation. He also explained the difference between the innovation and invention. The speaker said that anything improved from the existing design, concept, features which gives distinctive advantage for the innovator than the existing one will be considered as innovation. He shared lot of live examples to distinguish the invention from innovation. The speaker motivated the participants to list few recent innovations and generated discussion on it. The discussion evoked good response among the participants and started interacting with the speaker. The speaker raised few questions about the success/ failure of the innovations. Moreover, he asked the students to identify the reasons for the failure of some of the innovations. While the participants gave information about the reasond for the failure, the speaker gave explanations for the same.

With respect to product development, he showed the framework of New Product Development (NPD), approaches and its benefits. Resource person explained the process of product development such as ideas generation, idea screening, concept development, testing, business analysis, marketing strategy, test marketing and commercialization. The participants benefitted a lot.
