On 21st Sep. 2022 a guest talk on “Rural Entrepreneurship Development” was organized by the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science in association with Entrepreneurship Development Cell and Institution’s Innovation Cell @ 9.30a.m.-12.30 P.M. Dr.Subramania Bala Jeshurun, Associate professor/MBA/FXEC was the resource person. During this session the resource person explained the meaning of rural entrepreneurship and gave lot of real-life examples citing the successful rural entrepreneurs. He explained some of the rural entrepreneurial activities like honey making, bamboo products, cane products, wood products, coir industry etc. He underlined the need for strengthening the rural entrepreneurship for retaining the rural people in the rural areas and thereby avoid the migration of labourers to the towns in search of employment. He also stressed the need for balanced regional growth by developing the rural entrepreneurship. He said that the rural development is the process of improving the quality of life and economic well-being of people living in rural areas. Rural development actions are intended to further the social and economic development of rural communities. In fact, many developed countries have very active rural development programs. The need for rural communities to approach development from a wider perspective has created more focus on a broad range of development goals rather than merely creating incentive for agricultural or resource-based businesses. Education, entrepreneurship, physical infrastructure, and social infrastructure all play an important role in developing rural regions. Rural development is also characterized by its emphasis on locally produced economic development strategies. As the resource person gave a lot of examples from the real rural scenario, students started giving examples from their own village and it provoked a wider discussion about rural entrepreneurship and employment generation through the same. The participants enjoyed the session and gathered lot of information and the government assistance for the promotion of rural entrepreneurship.
