On 20.09.2022 Entrepreneurship Development Cell of IT department and IIC organized a guest talk on “Entrepreneurship Opportunities in Waste Management” through offline mode. The session was handled by Dr.L.Gandhimathi, Assistant Professor, Department of Information Technology,FXEC from 1.30- 4.00 p.m. The programme was presided by Dr.J.B.Shajilin Loret. This program was organized for II year B.Tech students.The resource person highlighted the eentrepreneurship opportunities through waste management. During her talk she insisted on Entrepreneurial opportunities in solid waste. She said lot of opportunities are available in the areas of waste collection, waste handling, waste sorting, waste storage, waste transport, waste transformation and energy recovery from waste.

She also said that the entrepreneurs can not only invest money in solid waste management sector, but also infuse new ideas, technologies and skills which can transform waste from being a liability into an asset. The efficiency of solid waste management increases with the involvement of entrepreneurs. In fact, it has been observed that involvement of entrepreneurs in solid waste management planning can reduce the service cost by half with higher employment generation and productivity. She also stressed that the entrepreneurial ventures in solid waste management can range from a one-man project to a mega-scale project involving thousands of skilled and unskilled workers. It has been observed that solid waste management is a labour-intensive process with tremendous potential to generate new jobs, depending on the type of project and the level of creativity. The major areas of entrepreneurial involvement include waste collection, transportation, reuse and recycling, upcycling and power generation.

She also inspired the students with motivating stories.The session was an interactive one where the students were very much participative in order to innovate the talents and clarify their doubts. Totally 55 students and 1 staff member were participated in the session.
