On 1.06.2022 Entrepreneurship Development Cell of IT department and IIC organized a seminar on “Entrepreneurial Opportunities in Export of Medicinal Plants” through offline mode. The session was handled by Dr.A.Jainul Fathima, Assistant Professor Francis Xavier Engineering College. The programme was presided by Dr.J.B.Shajilin Loret and jointly coordinated by Dr.L.Gandhimathi, EDC Coordinator of IT department.

The resource person explained the medicinal plants which can be exported to foreign countries and generate revenue through this venture. She explained the herbs which can be used for preparing medicines and value - added products. She said that the medicinal plants play an important role among rural people. Substantial amount of foreign exchange can be earned by exporting medicinal plants to other countries. The resource person highlighted that there are 880 medicinal plants are being exported from India. The speaker also said that 70 per cent of these plants are found in the tropical forest especially spread across the Western and Eastern Ghats.

The speaker highlighted few medicinal plants which are exported from Tamil Nadu such as Aloe vera, Borage, Camomile, Cinchona bark/China bark, Poppies, and Psyllium/plantago. This workshop also gave an insight about the opportunities for starting the online business and to understand various aspects of online medicinal plants marketing strategies that can improve the business by extending an ongoing support to ensure the success of the business using medicinal plants. The session was an eye opening for the students and it was very much interactive one where the students were very much participative. Totally 35 students were participated in the session.
