On 25th August, 2022 a guest lecture on “Creating Startup Eco-system in Higher Educational Institutions – A Need of the Hour” was organized by the Department of Computer Science and Business Studies in association with Entrepreneurship Development Cell 2:00 p.m. Dr. M. Suresh Chinna Thambi of Francis Xavier Engineering College, Vannarpettai was the resource person. The program was conducted in offline mode and was coordinated by Dr. T. Manimozhi, EDC Co-coordinator & Professor Mathematics of CSBS Department.

The guest speaker explained the need for developing the startup ecosystem in the higher educational institutions. The speaker highlighted the advantages the students will have if the startup ecosystem exists in the campus of the higher educational institution. The inspiration gained through the startup eco system will induce the students to involve in innovation and developing the startup. The examples presented by the guest speaker evolved a discussion and students interacted with the guest speaker. He also told that, many incubation centers supported by government schemes run programs to support early stage startups. Some incubators also, provide tech support to startups and their programs usually support a cohort which is supported by industry.

Guest speaker told that the students can connect with various competitions based projects such as Robocon, Formula students teams, etc. This will help them build technical skills and enable them to work in a team for a focused activity. Peer to peer learning is another important activity which helps students to learn quickly. Joining such active groups will help students shape their overall persona. The best way to start your entrepreneurial journey is to experience it, by directly jumping into it. Another way would be to join a startup as an intern / employee and help them grow. Focused programs like startup school India can be a good kickstart for aspiring entrepreneurs. The feedback link was posted to the participants to give opinion about the program. This guest lecture on “Creating Startup Eco-system in Higher Educational Institutions – A Need of the Hour” was felt useful by the students.
