On 07.10.2023 a session on " Idea to Startup: A Career Choice for Engineers" was organized by the Entrepreneurship Development Cell and IIC in association with the Department of Computer Science and Business Systems. The session was handled by M.Dharshini, IV/CSE, Francis Xavier Engineering College, Tirunelveli from 09.30 AM - 04.30 PM. 53 students and 2 faculties participated. This event was coordinated by Ms.A.Arthy,AP/CSBS. This event was conducted with the guidance of Dr. Lourdes Poobala Rayen, EDC Director.

The resource person Ms.M.Dharshini, product innovator and startup founder, IV/CSE Francis Xavier Engineering College was introduced to the participants. The resource person started the speech by explaining the journey from idea to startup which has emerged as a viable and exciting career choice for engineers in recent years. She explained the advantages of being an entrepreneur by giving detailed insight about the business opportunities available in the social domain. She stated that the engineering profession has traditionally been associated with working for established corporations or government organizations and however, an increasing number of engineers are now considering entrepreneurship as a career path.

The rise of technology-driven startups, access to venture capital, and the global demand for innovative solutions have created a fertile ground for engineers to turn their ideas into successful businesses. She said that entrepreneurship provides the freedom to set one's own goals, make decisions, and chart a unique course for the business. She also mentioned that unwavering passion, ambition, self-confidence, adaptability, humbleness, hardworking, persuasive and comfortable with risk is some of the characteristics of a successful entrepreneur. She also explained different types of entrepreneurship like small business, online business, home based business and serial entrepreneurship. She shared her personal experience as how she started her startup journey with a clear vision but limited resources. She explained the startup opportunities in engineering field by identifying a specific problem or opportunity in the engineering domain that students are passionate about solving or exploring. She makes the students to understand that the path of entrepreneurship may include challenges, setbacks, and uncertainties. And to maintain a resilient mindset, learn from failures, and persevere in pursuit of their startup goals. The participants interacted with the resource person and gathered lot of information regarding entrepreneurship and business opportunities. The session came to an end with the feedback given by the participants
