LEAN SIX SIGMA GREEN BELT PROGRAMME

The second phase of the “Lean Six Sigma Green Belt” training programme started from 29th and 1st Mar. 2020. Corporate Professional and academicians attended this training programme. The trainers Dr.Gopal Sivakuamr, Lean Six Sigma Black Belt and Head, Campus to Corporate Programme, MSME Technology Development Centre, Chennai and Mr.D.Vadivel, Trainer & Consultant (LSS & AI) highlighted the essence of Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Programme. During the second phase of the training program the resource persons explained the 7th to 15th steps of the DMAIC concept of lean six sigma. Practical exercises were given to the participants to understand the Analysis Phase, Improve and Control phase. The analytical tools like FMEA, Pareto Analysis, Hypothesis testing, Correlation and Regression Analysis were explained with the help of suitable exercise.


An online examination was conducted to all the participants. The trainers evaluated the test and the results were announced by the trainers. Government of India MSME Certified Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certificates were distributed to all the qualified trainees. As a last part of the training, the trainees were asked to give their feedback about the training program. All the trainees expressed their overwhelming satisfaction about the program.

MEDIA MEET WITH PARTICIPANTS OF LEAN SIX SIGMA GREEN BELT TRAINING PROGRAMME

PROGRAMMEEntrepreneurship Development Cell and MSME Facilitation Centre for Campus to Corporate  (C2C) of FXEC  organized the “Lean Six Sigma Green Belt” from 28th – 31st Jan. 2020.  51 students enrolled for this training programme. On the last day a media meet was organized to share the experience of the participants about the Lean Six Sigma Green Belt. Dr.Lourdes Poobala Rayen, the Director of Entrepreneurship Development Cell explained the purpose for which the training was organized for the students. Dr.Gopal Sivakumar, Head, MSME Campus to Corporate (C2C) Program explained the importance of the training programme and the problem solving tools techniques taught to the participants.  The students gave their feed back to the media team about the training programme and they highlighted the confidence gained through the training programme. Dr.D.C.Joy Winnie Wise, the Principal interacted with the participants about the Lean Six Sigma Green Belt programme.

REPORT ON LEAN SIX SIGMA GREEN BELT PROGRAMME

Entrepreneurship Development Cell and MSME Facilitation Centre for Campus to Corporate (C2C) Program of FXEC organized the “Lean Six Sigma Green Belt” from 22nd, 23rd, 29th and 1st Mar. 2020. The first phase of this training programme started on 22nd Feb. 2020. 23 participants from industry and academia attended this training programme. MCA department students invoked the presence of God through a prayer song. Dr.Lourdes Poobala Rayen, the Director of Entrepreneurship Development Cell welcomed ants. 

The trainers Dr.Gopal Sivakuamr, Lean Six Sigma Black Belt and Head, Campus to Corporate Programme, MSME Technology Development Centre, Chennai and Mr.D.Vadivel, Trainer & Consultant (LSS & AI) highlighted the essence of Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Programme. During the first two days training program the resource persons explained the DMAIC concept of lean six sigma. Practical exercise were given to the participants to understand the project identification methods like Voice of Customers (VOC), Voice of Business (VOB) and Cost of poor quality (COPQ). 

The resource persons explained the KANO model to meet the requirements of the customers, calculation of Defects Per Million Opportunity (DPMO), DPMO and sigma level, Project Charter, SIPOC model and the usage of control charts namely X bar R Chart with practical exercise. The participants were given opportunity to learn the concepts and models through hands on exercise using Mini Tab package.

WORKSHOP ON INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS ANDENTREPRENEURSHIP
(28.11.2019 & 29.11.2019)

Workshop on Intellectual Property Rights and Entrepreneurship was organised in association withFXEC Entrepreneurship Development Cell on 28 th and 29 th November 2019. Forty three faculty members from 18 colleges participated in the programme. Sixteen faculty members from different departments ofFXEC attended the workshop. The inaugural session began with a Tamil Thai Vazhthu. The welcome speech was delivered by Mr. Siva Bharathi.

Dr. D.C.Joy Winne Wise the Principal delivered the Presidential address. Dr. Lourdes PoobalaRayen, Director of Entrepreneur Development delivered the felicitation address. The resource person Mr.S. Thanga Pandian, Deputy Controller of Patents and Design gave an overview about the IntellectualProperty Rights and Entrepreneurship.

The resource person Mr. S. Udhaya Shanker, Assistant Controller of Patents highlighted theimportance of IPR and the steps to be taken to register the research findings and innovations of the staffand students. Mr. S. Thangapandian explained the criteria to be fulfilled for filing a patent.On the second day, Mr.D. Nagarajan Udaiyar, Attorney, K&S Partners, Chennai discussed onIPR infringement, reimbursement and government support for IPR and the softwares used for IPR search.

In the second session, Mr. S. Thanga Pandian and Mr. S. Udhaya Shanker gave a lot of insights tomotivate the participants about the IPR and patents. The participants raised so many questions and theresource persons clarified all the querries asked by the participants. During the feedback session twoparticipants gave valid opinions with regard to the workshop. Subsequently, the certificates were
distributed to the participants.

    

Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp(23rd September 2019)

Entrepreneurship Development Cell organized three days Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp from 23rd Sep. 2019. 89 students from the department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, Information Technology and MCA participated in the camp. The Awareness Camp started with the prayer song by the ECE students. After invoking the God’s presence Dr.Lourdes Poobala Rayen, Director of EDC gave an introduction about the purpose of organizing the Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp and he  welcomed the dignitaries present for the awareness camp. 

  

Felicitation address was given by Mrs.Subbulakshmi, Head, Department of Information Technology. She highlighted the need and importance of entrepreneurship. During the felicitation address she inspired the students to think creatively. Mr.S.Mohamed Yousuff Raja, the Chief Executive Officer, Qtech Services, Tirunelveli, President, Computer Dealers Association, Chairman, Rotary Means Business Fellowship was the Chief Guest. He inaugurated the Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp and gave a talk on “Creative Business Opportunities”. During his speech he inspired the students by quoting lot of examples from his own experience. Being an engineer from Electronics and Communication he underlined the need for the engineering students to enter entrepreneurship. The participants raised lot of questions and for all the questions the guest speaker gave fitting reply. He also explained the need to think creatively and introduce innovation. Students were highly impressed about the way he motivated the students.

 

Jc.M.Sathish Selvakumar, the Managing Director, Magnum Group, Tirunelveli spoke on the “Entrepreneurship: A Driving force to Scale New Heights”. He highlighted the need and importance of entrepreneurship. He gave lot of examples about the scope of entrepreneurship citing live examples. He stressed the need to involve in the entrepreneurial venture to enhance the industrial development and to improve the economic development of the nation. 

 

Mr.Palani Rajan, Director, LAPSINA Technology Pvt. Ltd, Founder, Rural Shop .Com, Tirunelveli spoke on “Business Opportunities in Rural Marketing”. The resource person explained the opportunities in the rural marketing. As he is owns an online shopping to sell different types of products especially the rural products, he gave lot of examples for his real life experience. The participants raised lot of questions about the way he is doing online business.  The interaction really helped the participants to get an idea about the online marketing. After the session the participants expressed their desire to enter entrepreneurshp.

Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp (24th September 2019)

REPORT OF EAC I

The second day (24th Sep. 2019) of the Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp started with the prayer recited by the IT student. 104 students from the department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, Information Technology and MCA participated in the camp. Dr.Lourdes Poobala Rayen, Director of EDC welcomed the dignitaries and the participants. He also introduced the guest speaker Dr.K.Jeyakumar, the General Manager (Development), SCAD group of institutions.  

Dr.K.Jeyakumar, the General Manager (Development), SCAD group of institutions addressed the participants on “Creativity and Innovations are key to Excel in Entrepreneurship”. The guest speaker while introducing the topic he showed three cini artists picture and asked the participants to give information about them. Like this he showed the world top entrepreneurs and asked the participants to identify them. Through this he highlighted the need for creativity and innovations. He gave few examples of leading industrialists who excelled in their business venture using their creativity and innovations. The session was highly informative and motivated the participants.

Mr.S.Rathakrishnan, Director of Triangle Training Centre, Tirunelveli was the guest speaker. He gave a talk on “Entrepreneurship as a Career”. The guest speaker explained the concept of entrepreneurship in his own style with humor. He gave a lot of example for the successful entrepreneurs who succeeded in their venture. He underlined the characteristics of the entrepreneur which drives them to scale newer heights and the passion they need to have to excel. Moreover, he emphasized the role of creativity and innovations to scale up the business venture. In fact, the session was very much inspiring. 

Dr.Lourdes, the Director, Entrepreneurship Development Cell spoke on the “Government Support to Entrepreneurs and the role of Role of Banks in the Promotion of Entrepreneurship”. He explained the various schemes through which the Government of India and the State Government are supporting the entrepreneurs. He highlighted the various schemes like UYEGP, PMEGP and NEEDS and the subsidies available to entrepreneurs. He explained the Mudra Loan Scheme and the procedures to obtain the loan under this scheme. Students interacted freely and collected lot of information from the speaker. The session was highly informative to the participants.  

Mr.G.Senthil Kumar, Founder & CEO, INDEESS, Tirunelveli spoke on “You Can Win: Sharing of Entrepreneurial Success”. The resource person explained the initiatives an entrepreneur has to take to enhance the business operation. He shared his personal experience in starting his concern and the steps he took for the promotion of the same. During his speech he underlined the importance of being a business man and the role played by the business people for the development of economy. The resource person shared lot of tit bits for doing business and the opportunities which are available to the prospective business man. The session was interesting students interacted freely.  

Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp (25th September 2019)

REPORT OF INDUSTRIAL VISIT

The students were taken for the industrial visit to Industrial Estate Pettai on 25th Sep. 2019. 104 students from the department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, Information Technology and MCA participated in the industrial visit. First students visited Royal Consumer Products, Tirunelveli. The company manufactures Black Cleanser,  Perfumed Phenyle, Stain Remover, Bleaching Powder, Multipurpose Soap Oil, Kumbam Sambrani and Manjuree Sambrani (Frankincense sticks). The company has received many awards from the central government for the manufacture of quality products. Students interacted with the employees working in the concern and collected lot of information. It was interesting to hear their marketing strategies to sell their products. 

The students visited Apple Cookware unit functioning in Pettai Industrial Estate. It is one of the leading manufacturer of Cookware products and it is being exported to foreign countries also. The Apple Cookware unit manufactures Pressure Cookers, Stainless Steel Cookwares, Non-stick Cookware, Aluminium Cookware, Table top Wet Grinders, Biriyani Pot, Stainless Steel Food Server, Choodarapettai and Stove. It was really interesting to the students to watch the making of cookwares and pressure cookers. Students had very good interaction with the workers and they collected lot information about the purchase of raw material, distribution net work and the marketing strategies followed for the sale of cook wares. 

Students visited the Coir Hortitech, manufacturing unit functioning in the Pettai Industrial Estate.  This concern manufactures high quality rubberised coir mattresses, Pillows and cushions. This was the first unit started for manufacturing mattress with coconut fibber. The unit has got number of awards from the central government and from the President of India. Originally this concern made the seats for the buses, trains and sofas. Now the same products are manufactured with the help of rubberised coir material. They make quality products and it is being distributed to all the states in India. The concern pays more attention towards the quality of their products. Students interacted with the workers and collected lot of information about the manufacture of the mattress, pillows and cushions. The students impressed to see the processing of materials to make the mattress and pillows.

The District Industries Centre, Tirunelveli organized MSME day on 3rd July 2018 in Tirunelveli Collectorate Conference hall at 11.00 a.m. Honourable district collector Tmt. Shilpa Prabhakar Sathis IAS was the Chief Guest. 150 final year students attended the programme. Mr.Murugesh, General Manager, DIC, Tirunelveli gave a presentation about various schemes like UYEGP, PMEGP, NEEDS, Government subsidies for various schemes. Mr. Kumaresan, the Lead Bank Manager, Tirunelveli gave the various services rendered by the banks for the promotion of entrepreneurship.Mr.Gunasingh Chelladurai, President of Tirunelveli Chamber of Commerce shared his experience.           

 On 13th and 14th of July 2018 AURCT-IEDP HUB,Tirunelveli & EDII, Chennai organized a Two Day E-Leader Workshop on” Entrepreneurship Development” in Anna University Regional Campus, Tirunelveli. On behalf of the Francis Xavier Engineering College, Tirunelveli two students S.K.Vasantharaj and Satheesh Yadav attended the Two Day E-Leader Workshop.

To commemorate the World Youth Skill Day on 15th July the Entrepreneurship Development Cell organized the “Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Competition” on 21st July 2018 at 10 a.m. For the purpose of motivating the students EDC created a new “Entrepreneurship Club” (E-Club).  278 students registered for the competition from various departments. Dr.S.Silas Sargumam, the professor & Head of MBA department, AURCT-IEDPI Hub Coordinator, Anna University Regional Campus, Tirunelveli inaugurated the E- Club activities and motivated the students.

 Dr.S.Cletus Babu, the Chairman of FX Engineering College and the SCAD group of Institutions addressed the participants of Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp about the need and importance of promoting entrepreneurship among the technocrats. He motivated the participants by quoting the examples from his personal experience. It was really inspiring to the students. He also stressed the need to inculcate the entrepreneurial culture among the engineering students.

On 16th August 2018 Er.H.Mohamed Riyaz, the Chairman and Managing Director of Kings Group of Companies, Tirunelveli addressed the Electrical and Electronics Engineering students on the topic “Identification of Business opportunities”. He gave lot of real life examples to inspire the participants. While explaining the process of identifying the business opportunities he asked the participants to observe the changes that are taking place in the market and in the attitude of the consumers.

Mr.Vairavaraj, the Director, Entrepreneurship Guidance Cell, Tirunelveli spoke on the topic “How to start a Business enterprise and the Govt. formalities and regulations”. He shared his experience from his own institution. He explained the crucial role played by entrepreneurship in the development of the nation. He also explained the procedure to be followed for starting the business establishment and the regulations and the government formalities involved in this process.

Dr.Rajakumar, the Head of the department of Mechanical engineering, Anna University Regional Campus, Tirunelveli spoke on the topic “Creativity and Innovations in Mechanical Engineering”. He gave  information about the latest trends and creative ideas in mechanical engineering. The students were inspired by the latest developments and the opportunities in the field of mechanical engineering.

 Mr.Govindaraj, Assistant Director, MSME Development Institute, Tirunelveli gave a talk on “Government Support to Entrepreneurs through MSME”. He explained the support service extended by the MSME and the financial assistance provided by the Central Government for setting up a business concern.

 On 18.08.2018 Mr.R.Elango, the Director (Rtd.), IOB, Rural Self Employment Training Institute gave a lecture on “Financial support to entrepreneurs through banks and financial institutions”. He highlighted the procedure for applying for loan to start the business concern and the procedure for availing the subsidies given by the government under various schemes. 

Mr.S.Ganesan, the Assistant Director/ Project Manager, District Industries Centre (DIC), Tirunelveli gave a talk on “Institutional Support to entrepreneurs through DIC”. He explained the PMEGP, NEEDS and Mudra Yojana schemes through which the government is helping the entrepreneurs to start the business establishment. 

 20th Aug. 2018 students were taken to SIDCO Industrial Estate, Pettai, Tirunelveli. Students visited Apple Cookware like milk boiler, puttukudam, idly cooker, pressure cooker and hard anodized pressure cooker are produced in the unit. Being the mechanical engineering students they were highly impressed about the hydraulic pressure machines which are used for making the cookers.

 Students were taken to non stick utensils used in the kitchen namely non stick appam pan, deep kadai, fry pan, paniyarampan, non stick dum biriyani pot and stainless steel food server. It was interesting for the students to see the manufacture of all the kitchen items used in their house. Students raised questions about the process of manufacture, the materials used for the manufacturing of the kitchen utensils.


Students visited Shanthini Polymers which produces electrical, plumbing PVC pipes in various sizes and water tanks. It is situated in the SIDCO industrial estate, Pettai. Dr.Lourdes Poobala Rayen, Director, Entrepreneurship Development Cell and Prof.Ariyanayagam, Mech. Engg. department accompanied the students for the industrial visit.


 On 23rd Aug. 2018, 75 Final year students belong to CSE, IT and MCA students participated in the second EAC. Rtn.Rathakrishnan, the Director of Triangle Training Centre, Tirunelveli spoke on the topic “Identification of Business opportunities”. Through his electrifying speech he impressed the participants. He shared his real life experience with the students. It was an inspiring speech.

Rtn.Saravanan Manickam, Proprietor of MSK IT Solutions, Tirunelveli spoke on the “Current Trends in IT Sector and the New Business Ventures in the Computer field”. He shared his business experience and the passion one should possess to scale new height in the business venture. He motivated the students by giving information about the successful entrepreneurs in the field of information technology.

 Mr.U.N.Nathan, Director, G2G Technologies, Tirunelveli addressed the students on the topic “Creativity and Innovations in Computer Science Engineering”. He highlighted the circumstances and the instances which helps a person to choose entrepreneurship. Quoting the situation to start his business concern and the need to address the social issues to find new business opportunities, he inspired the students. The speaker led the entire session through interaction with the students.

 Mr.Ramiah Chidambaram, CEO, W2B MutiTech Research Pvt. Ltd., Tirunelveli spoke on the importance of various tools used for the development of software. The speaker involved the students and made them to realize the need to strengthen their knowledge about the front and back end languages. He also gave an opportunity to train the students for the development and hosting of website free of cost. Students expressed their willingness to join in the training. He also promised to help the students for the incubation projects.

On 24th Aug. 2018 Mr.Kumaresan, the Survey Inspector, District Industries Centre, Tirunelveli highlighted the activities of the District Industries Centre and the various schemes through which the Govt. is supporting the entrepreneurs. He listed the schemes namely UYEGP, PMEGP and NEEDS through which the entrepreneurs can avail financial assistance with subsidy. He also explained the capital subsidies for the acquisition of the machineries and the power tariff subsidies given by the Tamil Nadu State government.

One of our Alumni Mr.Chelliah Muthurajan, the CEO of the Alpha Business Solutions, Tirunelveli who did Computer Science Engineering spoke on the “Technology Business opportunities and Business Incubation”. He explained his past experiences while starting his dream concern. He also extended a golden opportunity of Business incubation to our students. The response from the guest speaker reveals the success of the Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp.

 Mr.R.Elango, Director (Rtd), IOB Rural Self Employment Training Institute spoke on the topic “Financial Support to Entrepreneurs through banks and Financial Institutions”. He explained the procedures to be followed for obtaining loan and repayment.  Students raised lot of questions about the conditions, security and the own contribution for getting financial assistance for the new business venture.

 Dr.Raja D.Petchimuthu, Associate Professor, VOC College, Thoothukudi spoke about the “Competencies of a Successful Entrepreneur”. Through video clippings the speaker highlighted the essential characteristics of an entrepreneur. Students were impressed about the way the speaker delivered the talk.

Industrial visit to TiliconVeli Tech Park (25.8.2018). Ms. D.Lalitha Ram, HR/Training Manager spoke about the technical services provided by the organization. Mr.Shunmugam, Technical Manager and Mr.Manikandan, Technical Leader addressed the students about the products and services provided by them. They highlighted the programming languages, latest tools to know for the product development and the recent developments in the field of IT sector.

Students met the Alumnus S.R.Lakshmi Priya, B.E (CSE) 2016 passed out who is working as  Software Developer using Java and Python and S.Melbha Sweety B.E (ECE) 2015 , ME 2017 passed out who is working as Software Testee. The alumnus interacted with our present students. It was highly useful and the students enquired lot of things relating to their experience in the unit.

 On 27th Sep. 2018 Mr.D.Dalton, Managing Director of Sri Meenakshi Honda Pvt., Ltd., Tirunelveli spoke on the topic “Business - a Viable Opportunity to Excel”. During his speech he highlighted the need and importance of entrepreneurship and inhibitions of the students to enter in to entrepreneurship. He motivated the students to choose entrepreneurship as a career option. He sighted number of successful entrepreneurs and their growth during his speech

Mr.S.Ganesan, Assistant Director, District Industries Centre, Tirunelveli spoke  on the topic “Institutional Support to Entrepreneurs through District Industries Centre”. The  speaker highlighted the government support to the entrepreneurs and the various schemes which offers financial assistance to the entrepreneurs. He mentioned the various government schemes like PMEGP, NEEDS and UYEGP and the subsidies provided by the government to support the entrepreneurs.

 Mr.M.Govindaraj, Assistant Director, MSME Development Institute, Pettai, Tirunelveli gave a lecture on “Government Support to Entrepreneurs through MSME”. The guest speaker gave a detailed explanation about the role of MSME for the development of entrepreneurship. He underlined the steps to be followed for setting up a business

Mr.J.Vignesh Balan, Proprietor, Nataraj Electricals, Thoothukudi gave a lecture on “Business Opportunities in Electrical and Electronics Engineering” to the Electrical and Electronics Engineering students.  The guest speaker highlighted the opportunities available for the EEE students. He explained about his own experience  his business. Students raised lot of questions about the products produced by him in his concern.

Mr.S. Harihara Sudhan, Vestar Industries, Tirunelveli spoke on the “Business Opportunities for the Civil Engineering Graduates”. He gave lot of examples for the successful entrepreneurs and inspired the participants about the freedom of finance and time in entrepreneurship. Participants raised questions about business opportunities available in the Civil Engineering field. The speaker shared his immense knowledge and experience and enriched the blooming buds.

 Mr. Ram Sankar Pillai, Managing Director of Aaram Engineering solutions, Pettai, Tirunelveli spoke on “Self Employment Opportunities in Electrical Engineering” to the EEE students. The guest speaker played a video which showed the variety of customized electrical machineries produced by him. It was very much interesting and impressive to see the machineries produced in a simpler manner. Actually the video presentation created an inspiration to the students. Students enthusiastically raised a lot of questions which were clarified by the guest speaker.

On 28th Sep.2018 Mr. Babu Sankar, Proprietor of E Dot Technologies, Palayamkottai  gave a lecture on “Latest innovations in the field of Electrical and Electronics Engineering” to the EEE students. During his speech he gave lot of examples for the innovations in the field of Electrical and Electronics which are used in our day to day life. He explained the production and functioning of printed circuit boards. The guest speaker listed the marketing areas for the electrical and electronic products where there are a lot of business opportunities.

 Er. A.Lawrence Walter, Proprietor, Walter Construction, and former Chairman BAI Tirunelveli spoke to Civil Engineering students on the “Latest trend and Advancement in Concrete Technologies”. The guest speaker explained the changes in the Building construction and the advanced technologies in concrete structures. The input was highly useful to the participants as the guest speaker shared his rich experience in the field of construction and participants raised questions about the modern technologies in thecivil construction.

 Mr.Jeba Raj, Proprietor, Arise Construction, Tirunelveli spoke on “Coastal Tide control structures” on 28th Sep.2018 to Civil Engineering students. The guest speaker shared his rich experience he gained while working in his project undertaken in Andaman & Nicobar Island. He discussed about the Ocean Engineering and highlighted the wave pressure, pile erection and working during night hours in ocean, and the constraints of sea bed level variation during high tides.

Er.G.Sokkanathan, Chairman BAI spoke on “Building Materials” to Civil Engineering students on 28th Sep.2018. He cited the importance of using M-sand as an alternative to the river sand as the river sand is depleting at a faster speed. He underlined the skills required for an entrepreneur and focused on soft skills. The guest speaker also spoke about the importance of the soft ware in construction field especially MS Project.

 Mr.A.Vanaraju, Assistant Engineer, Tuticorin Thermal Power Station, Thoothukudi spoke on 28th Sep.2018 to EEE students on “Design and functioning of Electrical Equipments in Power Plants”. He explained the basics of Circuit Breaker in Electrical Engineering. He gave input about the concept of  “Production and Protection” and explained the functioning of the protective devices like Fuse, Relays, Transformer, Lightning arresters, Circuit Breakers etc., Using a video he explained the functioning of Tuticorin Thermal Power Station  (TTPS). The guest speaker also explained the construction and working principles of Elevators.

 Mr.Mahesh, the proprietor of Sky Soft Technologies, Tirunelveli gave the lecture on “Designing and Functioning of Printed Circuit Boards (PCB)” to EE students on 28th Sep.2018.  He highlighted the opportunities in the manufacture of customized PCBs. The video shown about the manufacture of PCBs was interesting and useful to the participants and they asked lot of questions about the same. The guest speaker underlined the need to enter in to entrepreneurship and the importance of maintaining the quality of the products manufactured instead of aiming at a higher rate of profit.  Industrial Visit by the Civil Engg. Students

 On 29th Sep. 2018 the students were taken to Tamirabharani Ready Mix Concrete plant, Ponnakudi, Tirunelveli. Faculty members from Civil Engineering Mr.M.A.Raja, Mr.S.Manikandan and Ms.Naga Ramni accompanied the students.Mr.Murugan, Chief engineer, Tamirabharani ready mix concrete plant addressed the Civil Engineering students . The Plant Engineers also explained about the process involved in ready  mix plant for manufacturing concrete and also the initial cost needed for starting the concrete mixer plant. Students interacted with them and got a clear idea about the process involved in the manufacture of ready mix concrete.

37. On 16th Oct.2018 Anna University Regional Centre, Tirunelveli organized an awareness programme titled as “Tamil Nadu Student Innovators 2018 (TNSI 2018)” at 10.00 a.m in association with EDII, Tamilnadu. 11 students participated in the programme. 11 teams registered for the TNSI 2018. Out of this 5 teams were selected in the first round and one team participated in the final round held in Chennai. The only team participated from the south zone of Anna University is from Francis Xavier Engineering College. 

38. On 21st Nov.2018 the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) Govt. of India established MHRD Innovation Cell (MIC) to foster the culture of innovation amongst all Higher Education Institutions. FX Engineering College is recognized as a registered institution in the council. Dr.Lourdes Poobala Rayen, the director of EDC was nominated as president, Dr.Rajakumar, Professor of ECE as the convener and Mr.K.Ariyanayagam, Assistant Professor, Mechanical Engineering as member of the IIC.  

On 20th Dec.2018 EDC took new initiative to create the incubation centre inside the campus. Mr.Ramiah Chidmbaram, CEO of W2B MultiTech Research Pvt., Ltd., Chennai came forward to start an incubation centre in the name of WhiziFi Institutional Research Wing (WIRW). Students were identified as project interns to work in the incubation centre. Dr.Lourdes Poobala Rayen the Director of EDC highlighted the purpose of creating the incubation centre. Mr.Ramaiah Chidambaram, explained the activities of the centre and the performance expected from the project interns. This centre will pave the way for the new start ups in the years to come.

On 20th Dec 2018 Mr.Sanjay Gunasingh, the Director of Bell Pins Private Limited, Palayamkottai gave a talk on “Business Opportunities in Tirunelveli District” to Electronics and Communication Engineering students. During his speech he asked the students to list out the problems faced by a mother daily at home.  From the answers given by the students he drawn few problems and spelled out what could be done to overcome those problems. Moreover, he explained the process of creativity and innovations in a simpler manner. Students were highly impressed about the way he motivated the students about entrepreneurship.

Mr.Ganesan, the Assistant Director / Project Manager, District Industries Centre, Tirunelveli spoke on the “Institutional Support to Entrepreneurs”. He explained the various schemes through which the Government of India and the State Governments are supporting the entrepreneurs highlighting the schemes UYEGP, PMEGP and NEEDS. He gave lot of examples about the about the industry clusters in Tirunelveli District. He also stressed the need to involve in the entrepreneurial venture to improve the economic development of the nation. 

 Mr.Parthiban, the retired Chief Manager of IOB and the Financial Literacy Counsellor, Lead Bank, Tirunelveli spoke on “Credit facilities for New Entrepreneurs” to the ECE Students. The resource person explained the lending process in a bank and he explained the formalities to be fulfilled while approaching a banker for getting loan for starting the business venture. Students raised lot of questions regarding bank lending and the subsidies the Government is extending while getting the financial assistance through the various schemes like UYEGP, NEEDS and PMEGP.

 Mr.U.N. Nathan, Director, G2G Technologies, Tirunelveli spoke on the “Creativity and Innovations in Software Industry”. He inspired the participants through posing lot questions to them. He made the participants involved in the deliberations and gave lot of insights about the creativity and innovations. He motivated the participants giving lot of examples for the innovations. It was an interesting session and the participants interacted with the resource person freely.  He identified the future leaders.

 Mr.T.Mathavan, CEO of N Tech Solutions, Tirunelveli gave a talk on Converting Creative Ideas to Business Ventures in Electronics and Communication Engineering. During his speech he motivated the participants to think differently to excel in the efforts taken. He listed his own life experience and the steps taken by him to move forward. His speech was very much interactive and the participants raised lot of questions to the guest speakers.   

 Mr.K.S Kavin, Managing Director, R& D Engineer,AB Technologies, Chennai spoke on “Innovations through Real Time Projects using IOT”. He shared his experience as a business man and how to overcome the hurdles faced during the initial stages. He shared his experience in the use of embedded system. He showed number of real time project developed by him to solve the problems faced by the society. He also explained how the AURDINO, GSM and GPS can be used to solve problems. He gave lot of problems for which solutions can be developed and created interest to develop working modules for the existing problems.

Mr.William James, Managing Director, Apple Cookware Pvt.Ltd, SIDCO Industrial Estate, Pettai, Tirunelveli is a successful entrepreneur having very rich experience in the field of manufacture of Cookware and having business connections in other countries too. He spoke on the topic “Entrepreneurship a key to success- Sharing of Entrepreneurial Success”. He explained how he entered in to the business line and the efforts he took to come up to this present level. He underlined ten things to follow to become a successful entrepreneur.

Mr.Ramiah Chidambaram, CEO, W2B MultiTech Research Pvt.,Ltd., Chennai spoke “Recent trends in Electronics and Communication Engineering”. He explained the recent trends and the business opportunities in the field of electronics and communications engineering and qualities of a successful entrepreneur. He also promised to help the students to complete the final year project. Moreover, he has created an incubation unit inside the college campus to help the students as well as for developing proto type products.

 Industrial Vist to SIDCO Industrial Estate, Pettai, Tirunelveli on 22.12.2018. The ECE students visited the Apple Cookware unit, SIDCO Industrial Estate, which produces Cook wares. The products produced by the Apple Cookware unit are Aluminum cookwares, milk boiler, puttukudam, idly cooker, pressure cooker and hard anodized pressure cooker. During the visit the students interacted with the workers and gathered lot of information about the production process.


 
 Students visited the Non Stick Kitchen utensils unit. The students were shown the production process of non stick utensils like Appam Pan, Deep Kadai, Fry Pan, Paniyaram Pan, Dum Biriyani pot and Stainless steel Food Server. Students were interested while visiting the non stick utensils unit since they were able to see all the non utensils used in the kitchen.  



 The students visited Sri Royal Industry situated in the SIDCO Industrial Estate which recycle the aluminum scrap to Raw Aluminum. Students visited Mat weaving unit functioning in the SIDCO Industrial Estate, Pettai, Tirunelveli. It was really an interesting activity as the mat is being manufactured by using the machinery. Though it was a small unit students were able to see the manufacturing process of mechanical Mat weaving

India First Leadership Talk Series” Webinar Organized by MHRD’s Innovation Cell by Shri Anand Mahindra, Chairman, Mahindra Group on 8th January 2019 Time: 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. The innovation club of Department of Information technology organized the Webinar on India’s First Leadership Talk telecasted by MHRD innovation cell on 08.01.2019 from 2.00 p.m to 3.00 p.m. The event was launched by AICTE with the support of MHRD. 30 students and 5 faculty members from IT department attended the Webinar. He gave innovative ideas to build a successful entrepreneur, building innovation and leadership. The speaker also informed the students to register for Smart India Hackathon 2019.

 Mr.Thomas A Antony, Managing Director, NOVA Carbons India Private Ltd., SIPCOT Industrial Growth Centre, Gangaigondan, Tirunelveli spoke on “Business Opportunities in Tirunelveli District”. He briefed about his career experience as the employee of Absobant Carbons (VVD Group of Companies) and the establishment of the concerns in Coimbatore and Tirunelveli  for the manufacture of Coconut shell based steam activated carbon. He explained the style of leadership and the steps taken by him to develop his concern.



 Mr.Kumaresan, Survey Inspector, District Industries Centre, Tirunelveli delivered a lecture on the “Institutional Support to Entrepreneurs through District Industries Centre”. The speaker explained the role of DIC for the development of industries in the district. He highlighted the training programmes conducted by DIC and the support services rendered by the government departments like KVIB,SIDCO and SIPCOT. At the end of the session students raised number of questions and the guest speaker gave explanation for the same.

 Dr.Lourdes Poobala Rayen, the Director of Entrepreneurship Development Cell gave a talk on the “Paradigm shift in the consumers’ behaviour and the resultant opportunities to the entrepreneurs”. Highlighting the changes in the consumer’s preference and their habits the speaker gave lot of live examples for the goods and services which are emerging in the market. In fact the students were motivated to opt for entrepreneurship instead of searching job. The speaker gave a call to all the participants to become the job provider instead of seeking job. 



 Mr.N.Parthiban, Financial Literacy Counsellor, Lead Bank, IOB, Tirunelveli addressed the participants about the “Financial Assistance for the Promotion of Entrepreneurship through Banks”. The guest speaker explained the preparations the prospective entrepreneurs must do before approaching the bank for the financial assistance. He also insisted on the responsibilities of the entrepreneurs to make use of the loan amount for the productive purpose efficiently. The speaker gave explanation about the government subsides under various schemes and the adjustments in the loan account for the subsidies given by the government to the entrepreneurs.

 On 24.01.2019 Mr.Sivasenbagam, Santham Food Products, Tirunelveli spoke on “Entreprenuership in Food Product Industry”. He is the 6th generation entrepreneur doing business in the food products. The guest speaker explained the scope for entrepreneurship in the Food Product Industry. Moreover, the speaker told that the change in the consumers’ preference towards organic products throws lot of business opportunities to the entrepreneurs in the food product industry.

Ms.Deepika Vijayakumar, Founder, Blurb Budgie Digital Marketing Agency spoke on “Entrepreneurship in Digital Marketing”. The guest speaker explained the latest trend and the future scope in digital marketing and the business avenues in the digital marketing. The speaker highlighted the scope for entrepreneurship in the Search Engine Optimisation, Social Marketing and E-Mail Marketing. Students raised questions about the social media and the use of the same for the market promotions.

 Mr.Dalton, Managing Director, Meenakshi Honda, Tirunelveli spoke on “Entrepreneurship in Service Industry”. The guest speaker explained the nature and the characteristics of the service industry and the latest trend in the service industry. He highlighted the various service providing concerns and the opportunities available in the service providing ventures. He also insisted the growing trend in the service sector and he gave lot of typical example. Students interacted with the guest speaker and learned a lot from the guest speaker.

 Mrs.Annie Rose Nirmala, the Head, Management Studies, FX Engineering College, Tirunelveli and Mrs.Shivanjali Kamble, Management Professional from IIM Calcutta delivered a lecture on the “Preparation of Business Plan”. The speakers gave an outline about the contents of the Business plan and the information it must contain while preparing the business plan. The speakers showed a model business plan and explained the same. Students were motivated to develop the model Business Plan.

The MBA students were taken to SIDCO Industrial Estate, Pettai, Tirunelveli on 25.01.2019 at 10.30 a.m. The participants visited the Apple Cookware unit, SIDCO Industrial Estate, Pettai, Tirunelveli. It manufactures variety of Cook wares. The products produced by the Apple Cookware unit are Aluminum cookwares, milk boiler, puttukudam, idly cooker, pressure cooker and hard anodized pressure cooker. The manufactured cook wares are being distributed in Tamil Nadu and Kerala. In addition to this the products are being exported to UAE. It was very much interesting to see the manufacture of cook wares starting from the Aluminum sheet to the product. During the visit the students interacted with the workers and gathered lot of information about the production process.

 Students visited Non Stick Kitchen utensils unit situated in the SIDCO Industrial Estate. In the Non stick Kitchen Utensils unit various kitchen utensils were produced. The students saw the manufacturing process of non stick utensils like Appam Pan, Deep Kadai, Fry Pan, Paniyaram Pan, Dum Biriyani pot and stainless steel food server. The participants saw the packing and loading of kitchen cook wares for the export in the containers. Participants gathered lot of information from the workers involved in the manufacture of Cook wares and distribution including export of cook wares

The students visited Sri Royal Industry in the SIDCO Industrial Estate, Pettai. It manufactures the Aluminum plates from raw Aluminum blocks. In this unit the used Aluminum cook wares and other Aluminum scraps were collected and recycled to manufacture the Aluminum blocks. The scraps were melted in a furnace and Aluminum blocks are being created. The molten Aluminum is used for making sheets of different sizes.

Students visited Coir Hortitech, Manufacturers of Coir, Foam Mattresses situated in SIDCO Industrial Estate, Pettai. This unit is a very old unit started functioning since 1960. It manufactures Rubberised Coir and Foam Mattresses, Pillows and Cushions. The manager of the unit explained each and every stage in the manufacturing process. Students were very much impressed and moreover, really it was interesting to see the process of manufacture and most of the student participants asked many questions about the process and the distribution of the mattresses

District Science Centre (DSC), Tirunelveli organized ‘Innovation Festival – 2019’ on 31 Jan -  02 Feb 2019. 84 students registered for the innovation festival 2019.
