Digital twin is the virtual replica or a digital representation of a physical object or system that can be used to run simulations before actual devices are built and deployed. So how does a digital twin work? Digital twin is brought into life by data scientists and applied mathematicians. They study the physics that resides inside a physical object or a system being mimicked and use that data to develop a mathematical model that simulates the real-world original in digital space. The twin is constructed to receive input from sensors gather data from a real-world counterpart. The twin is constructed so that it can receive input from sensors gathering data from a real-world counterpart.

Digital twin was founded by Oracle Corporation, a multinational technology company headquartered in Austin, Texas, United States. Oracle IoT Digital Twin Implementation works on three pillars, namely, virtual twin, predictive twin and twin projections to solve different kinds of problems. The concept and model of the digital twin was publicly introduced in 2002 by Grieves, then of the University of Michigan, at a Society of Manufacturing Engineers conference in Troy, Michigan. Grieves proposed the digital twin as the conceptual model underlying product lifecycle management (PLM). Some of the World's Leading Digital Twin Companies are Microsoft Corporation, Bosch, General Electric Company, IBM Corporation, Siemens. Oracle Corporation and Cisco Systems.
