Mission Clean Up Thamirabarani 2017

In a bid to save the water source of Tirunelveli and transform it into a clean city, Mr. Sandeep Nanduri, the District collector took up initiative in organizing the mega project titled “Mission Clean Up Thamirabarani 2017” to clean the banks of the river Thamirabarani. The first phase of this project was carried out on 16.7.2017. To support this great task, more than 50 NSS volunteers of Francis Xavier Engineering College actively participated and cleaned the allotted area – left side of Karpanthurai river bank, Melapalayam. The clean up drive commenced at 7 am and ended by 11 am. The volunteers initiated the rally and raised slogans to create awareness among the public for the need of keeping the Thamirabarani River clean and hygiene which is the main source of drinking water and irrigation in Tirunelveli and its neighbouring places. Then, the volunteers picked up the garbage like plastic wastes, polythene bags etc., dumped in the surroundings and also cleaned the area by cutting the bushes.

Later, all the volunteers assembled for valedictory function arranged by the collector’s office and performed various cultural events like Dance, Singing and silambam. The team was co-ordinated by Mr. Sathish Kumar. J, Programme Officer, National Service Scheme.

The volunteers were appreciated by the Dr. Cletus Babu, Chairman, SCAD Group of Institutions. Dr.Ilangovan, Principal and Mr. Krishnakumar, Administrative Officer visited the allotted area and motivated the volunteers.
