All the Computer Labs of Francis Xavier Engineering College are provided with Intranet (all the systems are interconnected) and Internet connectivity using CAT5 cable (CAT5 is an Ethernet network cable standard defined by the Electronic Industries Association and Telecommunications Industry Association (commonly known as EIA/TIA). CAT5 is the fifth generation of twisted pair Ethernet technology and the most popular of all twisted pair cables in use today),

which is more pliable and better suited for shorter-distance. CAT5 Ethernet cable remains the popular choice for most wired local area networks (LANs), because Ethernet gear is both affordable and supports high speeds. The campus has Wi-Fi connectivity. The Internet (4 M bps) facility is free for the staff and students and is available round the clock. Teachers make use of Educational Portals and web sites for teaching, research and learning. All the teaching materials prepared by the staff are available in the intranet along with course plan etc. which can be accessed by the students through intranet facility. All the staff members and postgraduate students are provided with individual login in the server through intranet.

(i) LINUX Server A Linux Server operates on a Linux Operating System. Linux is a free, open-source operating system that is based on Unix.

(ii) DNS Server (Domain Name System) A DNS server is any computer registered to join the Domain Name System. A DNS server runs special-purpose networking software, features a public IP address, and contains a database of network names and addresses for other Internet hosts.
(iii) Database Server A Database server is a computer program that provides database services to other computer programs or computers, as defined by the client-server model. The term may also refer to a computer dedicated to running such a program. Database management systems frequently provide database server functionality and some DBMSs (e.g. MySQL) rely exclusively on the client-server model for database access.

Francis Xavier Engineering College has state-of-the-art smart classroom with provisions for effective e-learning and student centred teaching learning process. It provides an opportunity for faculty members to prepare interactive lessons and conduct sessions in a much more efficient manner. These classrooms are well equipped and utilized for ISRO’s dream project of providing distance-learning education via satellite “EDUSAT”, to which the college is a life member. Each department has been provided with LCD projectors and OHP’s. The net-worked class rooms enable better student- teacher interaction and learning with digital on line content. Wireless network access is available in the campus to support wireless desktop computers and laptops.

There are three different libraries in the campus with a built in area of more than 5000sq. Feet Housed comfortably in an effusively air-conditioined edifice dominated by peach and tranquility, the College Resource Centre (CRC) or the College Central Library boasts a pulsating collection of over 28,200 volumes of resource material which includes text books, reference books, project reports, back / bulk volumes, CD / ROM databases and Video Cassettes and the College Digital Library with more than 35 systems networked with internet. The CRC subscribes more than 234 National and International Journals & Magazine. All the students are permitted to access the systems and internet facilities from 8.00 a.m. To 9.00 p.m. A separate internet lab having 512 kbps broad band connection is provided for the students.

In keeping the mission and vision of the Institute, PG Library acts as a main resource centre to meet the information and knowledge requirements for the faculty and students.

Separate hostel facility is available for boys and girls. The hostel rooms are well furnished and hygienic food is served in the mess.

To cater to the needs of day scholars, the college plies its own fleet of buses. Transport facility is available for the day scholar and working Staff who are in and around Tirunelveli District.

A well established canteen is functioning inside the campus to cater high class food for the students as well as for the staff from 8.00 a.m. To 8.00 p.m. More than

150 students can dine at a time inside the canteen. All types of vegetarian and noon vegetarian dishes, soft drinks, fresh juices, snacks are made available.
